KSL is the Taliban of Utah

Salt Lake Tribune - Madonna may be crossed off local TV schedule:
Madonna's controversial depiction of a crucifixion during her worldwide concert tour won't be KSL's cross to bear if it airs on television in November.
The Mormon-owned TV station (Channel 5) has decided not to air an NBC broadcast of the pop singer's "Confessions Tour" concert if it includes a segment in which the Material Girl hangs on a mirrored cross wearing a crown of thorns.
"We make every effort to operate within the community standards," said KSL station manager Greg James. "This is clearly something that if the event occurs in that show it would - in my opinion - not be keeping within the [holiday] season and within community standards. And we would be compelled not to air the program."

I'm very tired of KSL acting like the Taliban of Utah and censoring what we can watch on TV. Just say no to censorship!

I doubt the controversial bits of her concert are even all that bad. People always work themselves up into a lather over things they haven't even seen.

Why just beat up KSL? There are many stations considering the same action. This is not limited to KSL. As a private company KSL has the right to show or not show whatever content they want. If that were not the case NBC would have their attorneys working on staightening them out.

On a side note. Why do you live in Utah if you hate it so much? There are many other areas of the country that you could live without having to deal with the things you disapprove of. Just wondering.

Actually, no other station pre-empts or refuses to air network programs more than KSL does.

I never said I hate Utah so much. And as a matter of fact, I have lived in many other areas of the country and world: New York, Chicago, California, Portland, Norway, and Australia. But I am planning to move to back to Portland in the Spring.

In the meantime, it is my responsibility as a citizen wherever I live to speak out against things with which I disagree.

Actually, I believe Norte Dame’s NBC affiliate is the current champion of pre-emptive action, but I am not 100% sure. Anyway good luck in Portland (I know that we get to enjoy a few more months of your little Bloglet, but I wanted to be the first to wish you farewell) and I hope you remain active on the Utah blog scene.

Stenar,

Just as Brian says, KSL does reserve the right.

Rest assured someone will pick up the program and air it if KSL does not. Just like Saturday Night Live.

And to be quite honest, who the hell wants to watch a Madonna concert anyway?

KSL is the real Taliban; Joseph Smith, Mohamed; and Mormons act just like the most strickt of the Muslims, trusting everything they are told without ever questioning.
